WorkAbility I is a California school and community transition program working to benefit students, employers, and the community.

 

WorkAbility promotes independent living and provides comprehensive pre-employment skills training, employment, and follow-up services for the youth in special education who are making the transition from school to work, and post-secondary education or training.

 

Participating employers receive the following benefits:

· Training and wages

· Training opportunity before hiring

· Screened, job-ready workers, anxious to learn

· Workers whose skills and interests are assessed and matched to the employer needs

· Dependable and motivated workers

· Ongoing support services to the student and employer

 

Requirements the employer must meet:

· Provide a job description and identify essential functions

· Designate an employee in the work area as a contact person

· Provide a challenging employment opportunity

Mrs. Ortega is the Student Services Rep for Career Technical Education from Riverside County Office of Education.  She is in the Career Center every week to answer questions students have about—
